Shugart was, for short stints, the starting shortstop for Pittsburgh, Louisville, and Chicago, and the centerfielder for St. Louis. He hit three homers for St. Louis on May 10, 1894, and three triples for Louisville on June 30, 1895. (ME)
FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» May 10, 1894: For the first time in ML history that teammates have combined for three straight home runs, as Frank Shugart, George "Doggie" Miller, and Heinie Peitz of St. Louis hit consecutive roundtrippers in the 7th inning. In all, Shugart hits three home runs and Peitz 2, giving St. Louis a total of 6. However, their heroics are to no avail as their club falls to Cincinnati, 18–9.

» August 21, 1901: At Washington, umpire John Haskell is involved in another violent incident during the Washington-Sox game when Sox SS Frank Shugart punches Haskell after a disputed ball four call, followed by a Nationals bases loaded triple. Teammate John Katoll tries to add his two cents, and a fan jumps in punching Shugart. The police intervene and both players are arrested. Shugart will be expelled. Washington's Win Mercer lives up to his name with an 8-0 win over Chicago.
