FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» September 27, 1924: Rookie Pedro Dibut (3–0) hurls the Reds to a 10–1 win over the Cardinals. Except for a brief relief appearance next year, that's it in the majors for the chunky Cuban, who played in the Negro Leagues for the Cuban Giants (West) before the Reds. He sets a oft-tied National League record for most wins without a loss in a career, a mark that will be eclipsed by Ben Shields (4–0 in two leagues).

» September 28, 1925: At Yankee Stadium, the Tigers take game 1, 6–2, behind Ken Holloway, and the Yankees rebound to win the nitecap, 7–6, behind Ben Shields. Schields gives up a pair of homers to Jess Doyle, his only two ML round trippers.

» May 20, 1931: At Philadelphia, the Phils outslug the Pirates, 11–7, with the victory going to reliever Ben Shields, his last ML decision. The journeyman will wrap up his undefeated career, finishing 4–0, despite an 8.27 ERA.
