Scott was a speedy, surehanded infielder who had 205 career stolen bases. Montreal
manager Dick Williams called him the most valuable .224 hitter in baseball in 1980
when Scott stole 63 bases and combined with Ron LeFlore to steal 160 - then a ML
record for teammate stolen bases duos. Scott also tied for the NL lead with 13 triples
in 1980. Kansas City teammate John Mayberry called Scott "Cool Breeze" because "he
didn't let things get to him." When Williams's replacement in Montreal, Jim Fanning,
released Scott, Rodney's friend Bill Lee walked off the team in protest.
