Schumacher's Brooklyn accent sounded like the parodies popularized by radio comedians in the 1930s and 1940s. He broke in with the New York Globe in 1920, then moved to the Brooklyn Standard-Union, where he covered the Giants. In 1946 he started a 25-year stint as public-relations director for the Giants in both New York and San Francisco. (NLM)
