A knee injury in 1938 nearly ended Salkeld's career, but he broke into the ML with
15 home runs and a .311 BA for the Pirates in 1945, his best year. His homer in Game
Five of the 1948 WS tied the score at 5-5 and helped the Braves to one of their two
victories.
