Saier replaced Frank Chance at first base when "The Peerless Leader" began to phase
himself out of the Cubs' lineup. In 1913, he batted .288 with a league-leading 21
triples and drove in a career-high 92 runs. His career was essentially ended by a
1917 back injury; he made an unsuccessful comeback attempt with the Pirates in 1919.
