A bonus baby, Sadecki went 9-9 as a 19-year-old, earning 1960 Cardinal Rookie of the Year honors. He led the World Champion 1964 Cardinals' staff with a 20-11 record. He beat the Yankees in the Series opener, but was knocked out in the first inning of Game Four. After dropping to 6-15 in 1965, he was traded to the Giants for Orlando Cepeda on May 8, 1966. In 1968, despite posting a 2.91 ERA, his 18 losses tied him for the league lead. After dropping to five wins in 1969 for the Giants, he was traded to the Mets, who used him as the swingman (reliever and fifth starter in a four-man rotation) on their staff. He relieved in four games of the 1973 WS, recording a save. (FJO)
