» June 22, 1916: Brownie 1B George Sisler makes his final mound appearance of the year, a complete game 2–0 loss to White Sox starter Reb Russell. » July 10, 1916: For the 2nd time this season, White Sox pitchers toss shutouts in a doubleheader, this time against the Red Sox. Lefty Williams wins 4–0, then Reb Russell follows with a 3–0 victory. With the temperature at Fenway in the 90s, this is the first of three consecutive doubleheaders for the two Sox.
» May 24, 1917: Reb Russell goes 12 innings for the White Sox, giving up 11 hits, as he shuts out Washington, 1–0.
» October 13, 1917: Game Five sees White Sox southpaw Reb Russell relieved by Ed Cicotte. Russell gave up two hits and a walk to the first three batters he faced. In a sloppy game marred by three New York and six Chicago errors, the White Sox break a 5–5 tie with three runs in the 8th. Red Faber, working the last two innings, is the winning pitcher.
» August 8, 1922: Pittsburgh makes a major-league record 46 hits in a doubleheader against Philadelphia. Pittsburgh sweeps, winning 19-8 and 7-3. With their 27 hits in game one, and 22 the day before, a two-game major-league record (49) is set. In today's double pounding, the hitting stars are Reb Russell and Cotton Tierney, each of whom collect eight hits.
» September 25, 1964: Dean Chance beats the Twins' Jim Kaat 1–0 to become the Angels first 20-game winner. Chance's five 1–0 wins in 1964 ties the major-league record held by four pitchers (Reb Russell; W. Johnson; Bush; Hubbell).
» September 17, 1981: Fernando Valenzuela sets the National League rookie record with his 8th shutout of the season, a 2–0 three-hitter versus the Braves. He ties the ML mark of Russ Ford (1910) and Reb Russell (1913).
