Born in Puerto Rico, Rosello was the American Association's all-star shortstop three times, but in the majors was limited to utility work, backing up Don Kessinger and Glenn Beckert. He saw his most action with the Cubs in 1976, when he appeared in 91 games. (JCA)
FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» May 4, 1976: At Wrigley, Rick Monday is honored before the Tuesday game, and he receives a copy of the proclamation and the flag he had rescued. Dodger VP and GM Al Campanis had to make special arrangements to get the flag out of the LAPD evidence room in time to present it to Rick. There are less than 5000 on hand as the Cubs lost to the Dodgers, 9–6. Rick has one hit and an RBI driving in Davey Rosello.

» July 28, 1977: In a wild one at Wrigley, the first-place Cubs (6) and Reds (5) combine for 11 home runs to tie the ML record. The first-place Cubs come back four times to win 16–15 in 13 innings in a contest that goes four hours and 50 minutes. Dave Rosello's RBI single wins it. The Reds lead 6–0 to start, beginning with Rose's leadoff home run, and lead 15–14 near the finish, but Dave Rosello's RBI single off Jack Billingham wins the game. Reuschel wins his 15th and 2nd in two days, pitching just 2/3 of an inning. Going deep are Buckner (2), Murcer, Mitterwald (2, including one in the 12 inning), and Morales for Chicago: Rose, Bench, Griffey, Lum and Geronimo homer for the Reds. Rick Reuschel (15–3), who shut out the Reds two days earlier, is the winner with 2/3 of an inning.

» June 1, 1980: The Cleveland Indians tie a major-league record with four sacrifice flies (Ron Hassey, Dave Rosello, Gary Alexander, and Dell Alston) in an 8–7 loss to the Mariners. Seattle adds one more, tying the 2-team single-game record of 5.
