The sleepy-eyed Rogovin got a late start as a ML pitcher. He began as a third baseman and then was bothered by a sore arm. Traded to the White Sox early in 1951, he went 12-8 and led the AL in ERA after manager Paul Richards made a few corrections in his delivery to get him to throw straight overhand. Rogovin, who was reported to sometimes fall asleep on the bench, compiled a 14-9 record the next season. On September 14, 1952 he pitched perhaps his best game, striking out 14 Red Sox in 16 innings before he was relieved. (RL)
