Roberts was handed the Padres' second base and leadoff jobs by new manager Larry Bowa in 1986, but hit a disappointing .253 with no extra-base power, rarely walked, stole 14 bases but was caught 12 times, spent time on the DL, and was only average afield. He resurfaced in 1989, mostly playing third base, and hit .301 (.391 on-base average) with 81 runs scored in only 329 at-bats. (JFC)
