A righthanded platoon outfielder, happy-go-lucky Bombo was the darling of Minnesota fans in 1978, when a song was written about him. Teammates sometimes attributed the strong-armed outfielder's popularity to his nickname, but he earned the fans' appreciation by hitting .281 in 1979. He had more at-bats (541) in his two years (1985-86) in Japan; playing for Kintetsu, he hit .240 with 37 HR and 86 RBI. (JCA)
