Rigney led AL shortstops in errors in his first season but improved to lead the league in fielding in 1924 and in assists, fielding, and total chances per game in 1926 after he was sold by the Tigers to the Red Sox. He hit .300 his first two seasons but had his best offensive year in 1924, when he drew 102 walks, second in the AL, while batting .289 and driving in 93 runs. Usually batting seventh in the Tigers' lineup, he often had the heart of their star order on base ahead of him, including Ty Cobb, Harry Heilmann, and Heinie Manush. (JFC)
