Tall and slender, Riggs was a good glove man but an unreliable hitter as the Reds'
third baseman for four years. He lost his job to Billy Werber in 1939, when Cincinnati
won the NL pennant. He became a good pinch hitter, leading the NL (10) with Brooklyn
in 1941.
