Solo home runs by Chad Curtis and Cecil Fielder off Rick Reed gives the Yankees their lead and Yankee starter David Cone dominates his former team and does not allow a hit until John Olerud's leadoff double in the seventh. The three games at Yankee Stadium draw 168,719.

» August 4, 1997: At Shea, the Mets top the Cards, 4–2, in a rain interupted game. Rick Reed (10–4) wins his 6th straight, beating Manny Aybar, making his ML debut. Lance Johnson has a pair of RBI triples. Completing an unusual major league-minor league sweep, the Pittsfield Mets top the New Jersey Cardinals (NY-Penn League) 8–4, in the earlier 9-inning game.

» October 16, 1999: The Mets trip the Braves, 3-2, to stay alive in the NLCS. John Olerud drives home all three NY runs with a solo home run in the 6th inning, and a 2-run single off John Rocker in the 8th. Brian Jordan and Ryan Klesko hit back-to-back homers in the 8th for the Braves' two runs. P Rick Reed shuts out Atlanta over the first seven innings on a single hit.

» May 3, 2000: The Major League Baseball Players Association again denies several major-leaguers admission to the union. The players crossed picket lines during the 1994-95 strike becoming replacement players. These players don't pay union dues, receive full pension benefits, and can to use the Association's grievance procedure. However, they do not receive a share of royalties from the sale of baseball merchandise. Historian Stuart Shea notes the players are the only ex-replacements currently on major-league rosters: Benny Agbayani and Rick Reed of the Mets; Trenidad Hubbard and Kerry Ligtenberg of the Braves; Cory Lidle and Damian Miller of the Diamondbacks; Keith Osik and Rich Loiselle of the Pirates; Matt Herges of the Dodgers; Joe Slusarski of the Astros; Shane Spencer of the Yankees; Jeff Tam of the A's; Donne Wall of the Padres.

» October 24, 2000: The Mets defeat the Yankees, 4-2, behind the pitching of Rick Reed and their bullpen. Benny Agbayani's 8th inning double is the key hit for NY as the cut the Yankees Series lead to 2-games-to-1. Orlando Hernandez fans 12 but loses his 1st postseason game after eight wins. The loss ends the Yankees record streak of 14 consecutive wins in World Series action.

» July 30, 2001: The Mets send All–Star P Rick Reed to the Twins for OF Matt Lawton.

» July 17, 2002: Minnesota's Torii Hunter, angered after he is hit by a pitch, picks up the ball and fires it at Indians pitcher Danys Baez in the fifth inning of an 8–5 Twins win. Hunter's throw hits the pitcher in the leg but he stays in the game. After the game Baez goes into the Twins clubhouse to apologize. Thome, Selby and Broussard homer for the Tribe, while David Ortiz and Dustin Mohr hit 2–run homers. Rick Reed (7–5) wins but has to shoo away a seagull, which walks out to the mound: it's the gull's 3rd straight appearance.

» August 13, 2002: In Minnesota, the Twins' Rick Reed needs little help in shutting out the Baltimore Orioles, 6–0. Doug Mientkiewitz hits two homers and David Ortiz adds a home run and 2-run double. In the pre-game ceremonies celebrating Native American Heritage Day, golfer Notah Begay, a Navajo, chips the opening pitch. The losing pitcher is Scott Erickson, who had beaten his former team nine straight times over six seasons.
