The third man in the Houston Astros' corps of young flamethrowers that included Wade Miller and Roy Oswalt, Redding struggled in the rotation during the 2001 season. His ERA hovered around 5.00 until he was moved to the bullpen for the stretch run in September, but his 95 MPH heater, sharp curve, and snappy slider guaranteed him a place in the Astros' future.
