Rawley broke into the ML as a short reliever, earning 36 saves in four seasons with the Mariners despite suffering a broken hand in 1979 and a broken foot before the 1981 season. He was traded to the Yankees in 1982 and became a starter that July. Rawley preferred starting, because it allowed him more time to warm up, and he became a dependable member of the Yankees' rotation, winning 14 games in 1983. After a 1984 trade sent him to Philadelphia, Rawley had 11 wins by July in 1985 before a fractured shoulder ended his season, and in 1986 he was 17-6 in late August, but lost his last five decisions. After a miserable 1988 (8-16, 4.18), he was traded to Minnesota for Tom Herr. (SG)
