San Francisco's number-one pick in the June 1967 draft, Rader was TSN NL Rookie Player of the Year in 1972, when he caught 127 games and batted .259. After five years as the Giants ' first-string
catcher (1972-76), he spent each of the following four seasons with a different team.
He was the Cubs' regular catcher in 1978, though he hit just .203.
