Pytlak was a small catcher at 160 pounds and seldom completed a full season in an injury-plagued career. JL x x He was a good contact hitter who batted over .300 four times. His greatest thrill, he said, was when he threw out Ty Cobb in an exhibition game. (ME)

» August 20, 1938: Indians C Frank Pytlak and C Hank Helf break the all-time altitude mark by catching baseballs dropped from the 706-foot Cleveland Terminal Tower.

» June 17, 1940: Citing upset nerves, Cleveland catcher Frank Pytlak quits the team. Pytlak, who had been a holdout all spring training, will be dealt to the Red Sox in December. The Indians bring up young Jim Hegan from Wilkes-Barre.

» December 12, 1940: Washington sends Gee Walker to the Red Sox for Doc Cramer. Walker is then packed off to Cleveland with P Jim Bagby, OF and C Gene Desautels for C Frank Pytlak, Odell Hale and P Joe Dobson. At the end of the War, on December 12, 1945, Bagby will return to the Red Sox. Boston also buys Pete Fox from Detroit.

» July 7, 1942: A military all-star team that includes Bob Feller, Cecil Travis, Sam Chapman, Benny McCoy, Johnny Sturm, and Frank Pytlak loses 5-0 to AL stars in a game at Cleveland in front of more than 60,000 fans. Jim Bagby wins against his Indian teammate Feller. Military relief receives $160,000.
