» April 30, 1922: Johnny Mostil, fleet-footed White Sox CF, moves over to LF for the only time in his career, and makes two outstanding catches to save Charlie Robertson's 20 perfect game over Detroit. Robertson is the 3rd pitcher in the 20th century to pitch a perfect game. Play is stopped twice after Ty Cobb and Harry Heilmann complain that Robertson is doctoring the ball. The losing pitcher is Herman Pillette, whose son Duane will pitch in the American League. » June 15, 1950:
The Yankees, frustrated in late April in their aborted trade for Joe Ostrowski with the Browns, finally get the pitcher, along with pitchers Tom Ferrick and Sid Schacht, and 3B Leo Thomas. New York sends infielder Snuffy Stirnweiss, OF Jim Delsing, pitchers Duane Pillette and Don Johnson, and $50,000. Both Ferrick and Ostrowski will prove their worth in the 1950 pennant drive. Tomorrow, the Yanks beat the Browns, 75, with Ferrick and Ostrowski starring in relief.

In St. Louis, the Yanks pummel the Browns 81 behind Eddie Lopat. Mickey Mantle, again batting leadoff and playing RF, connects for his 2nd home run, off Duane Pillette, a 450-shot in the 6th inning.
» July 1, 1951: In the second game of a doubleheader, the Browns Ned Garver, en route to a 20-game season, limits the White Sox to two hits, winning, 31. The loss drops the Sox out of the AL lead. Chicago wins the opener, 21 in 11 innings on Minoso's 400-foot homer to left center. Minnie's blow breaks up a pitching duel between loser Duane Pillette and Ken Holcombe.

Duane Pillette of the Browns ends the Yankee win streak at 18 and the Browns team record 14-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over New York in Yankee Stadium. Johnny Mize becomes the 93rd player in baseball history to get 2,000 hits when he singles in the Yankee run in the fifth.
