Pico split his rookie season between starting and relief, going 6-7 with a 4.15 ERA. He was used almost exclusively out of the bullpen in 1989. In 1990, his last year in the majors, he allowed 120 hits in only 92 innings. (SFS/JT)

» May 31, 1988: Jeff Pico throws a 4-hit shutout against the Reds to win his ML debut with the Cubs 4–0. He is the first Cubs pitcher to debut with a shut out since Bill Lee in 1934.

» May 1, 1989: In SF, Cubs catcher Damon Berryhill hits a leadoff homer in the 12th, off Mike LaCoss, and Chicago wins, 4–3 over the Giants. Jeff Pico is the winner.
