Stats through the 2000 season
A top prospect in the Oakland Athletics organization, the Dominican-born Ortiz won the A's second base job in spring training 2001. However, he struggled early on, losing his job to Frank Menechino, and was eventually dealt to the Colorado Rockies in a three-way deal involving Jermaine Dye and Neifi Perez. (GL)
