    FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» October 6, 1991: Greg Maddux and the Cubs beat the Cards, 7-3, with Omar Olivares the loser. The Cards are thwarted in their attempt to become the first team since the 1912 Washington Senators to have 10 players with 10 or more stolen bases. In the 9th inning, Joe Torre inserts Tom Pagnozzi, with nine steals, into the game as a pinch runner, but Hector Villanueva throws him out. Yesterday, Pagnozzi reached base twice and both times the burly Villanueva gunned him down.

» July 24, 1995: Colorado defeats Philadelphia by a score of 11-3. Two of the Phillies' runs score on a pinch-hitter home run by P Omar Olivares in the 5th inning. Olivares is the 1st pitcher to hit a pinch homer since 1990.

» June 13, 1997: Tiger P Omar Olivares hits the first triple by an American League pitcher in 24 years, but Henry Rodriguez bangs a two-run homer as Montreal beats visiting Detroit, 4–3. Olivares loses despite going 2-or-3.

» July 18, 1997: The Mariners, seeking pitching help, trade Scott Sanders (3–6) and two minor leaguers (pitcher Dean Crow and 3B Carlos Villalobos) to the Detroit Tigers on Friday for righthanders Omar Olivares (5–6) and Felipe Lira (5–7). Piniella practically begged for a trade after the M's lost to Minnesota 9-7 in 12 innings, cutting Seattle's lead to over Anaheim in the American League West to one-half game.

» September 27, 1997: The Mariners hand Randy Johnson his 20th win when the Big Unit pitches the 5th and 6th innings in relief of Omar Olivares and Seattle beats Oakland, 9–3. Johnson is the first 20-game winner in M's history, The Mariners stake Olivares to a 7–2 lead, but Lou Piniella lifts the starter after four innings. Johnson was sidelined from August 20th to September 13th with a finger injury.

» July 29, 1999: The Athletics obtain P Omar Olivares and IF Randy Velarde from the Angels in exchange for P Elvin Nina and outfielders Jeff DaVanon and Nathan Haynes.

» March 28, 2001: The Pirates acquire P Omar Olivares from the A's for a player to be named. It's Omar's 8th team in eight years.
