» December 15, 1995: The Blue Jays sign free agent C Charlie O'Brien to a 2-year contract.

» September 13, 1996: Toronto C Charlie O'Brien unveils a hockey-style catcher's mask in the game against the Yankees. The mask is a success, but the Blue Jays lose to the New Yorkers, 4-1. Andy Pettitte wins his 21st.

» May 14, 1997: In Detroit, Blue Jay catcher Charlie O'Brien doubles in two runs, then breaks a 2–2 tie with his first career grand slam. O'Brien drives in six runs to back Pat Hentgen's (4-1) win.
