Nyman showed promise in his first call-up with the White Sox, going 2-1 with a 2.01 ERA in seven starts and one relief outing, but went 4-4, 5.29 in 1969 and was bombed in two starts with the Padres in 1970. (JFC)

FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY » July 16, 1969: After White Sox lefty Jerry Nyman walks in a run with the bases loaded, Rod Carew steals home for the 7th time, as the American League-West leading Twins sweep a twin bill, winning 9–8 and 6–3 from the White Sox. Carew ties Pete Reiser's major-league record for steals of home in a season, a record since given back to Ty Cobb (8 steals in 1912) in 1991 after further research.
