FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» July 29, 1990: At Detroit, the Red Sox bang out 12 doubles, setting an American League record, in a 13–3 win over the Tigers. Wade Boggs has 3, while Tim Naehring, Jody Reed, and Ellis Burks each have 2. Greg Harris wins easily. The previous AL record was 11, set on July 14, 1934 by Detroit against New York. The 12 two-baggers will be tied in 1996 by Cleveland.

» April 19, 1994: The Red Sox defeat the Athletics, 13-5, as Mo Vaughn and Tim Naehring twice hit back-to-back home runs. The pair connect off Bob Welch in the 2nd inning and off Carlos Reyes in the 6th.

» December 13, 1996: The Blue Jays sign free agent P Roger Clemens (10-13) to a 3-year contract worth $24.75 million. The Red Sox' last minute offer falls short and The Rocket's flirtation with the Yankees comes to naught. The Sox are successful in retaining Tim Naehring, who was minutes away from signing with Cleveland.

» April 13, 1997: In a Kid's Opening Day at Fenway, the Sox introduce their new furry mascot, Wally the Green Monster. Wil Cordero bangs a home run off the coke bottle above the LF wall, the first home run to hit the "caffeine monster", and Tim Naehring adds a grand slam to pace Boston to a 7–1 win over Seattle.

» May 22, 1997: The visiting Red Sox collect 19 hits, but strand 16, in beating the Yankees, 8–2. Former Yankee Mike Stanley hits a three-run homer, and Wil Cordero adds five hits, Tim Naehring has four hits and Mo Vaughn belts his 10th homer of the season in the 8th.
