Hy Myers had several outstanding years for the Dodgers, batting over .300 three times and recording league highs of 14 triples and 73 RBI in 1919 and 22 triples in 1920. He played in the longest ML game ever, a 26-inning tie with the Braves on May 1, 1920. (JK)
FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» September 9, 1915: Boston's Lefty Tyler allows just one Brooklyn hit, but loses 1–0. Jeff Pfeffer is nearly as perfect, allowing two hits for the win. Brooklyn scores the lone run on a walk by Hy Myers, Gus Getz's single, a double steal, and a sac fly.

» October 9, 1916: After a Sunday off, Babe Ruth outpitches Sherry Smith to win Game Two of the World Series 2–1 in 14 innings. Both starters go the distance with Smith allowing seven hits, Ruth giving up 6. According to the Boston Traveler, each starter throws 148 pitches. Ruth allows one run in the first, a homer by CF Hy Myers that skips by Harry Hooper. It is only homer off Ruth this year. Only two Robins reach base after the 8th, one on a walk and another on an error. This is the start of 29 2/3 scoreless World Series innings pitched by Ruth.

» June 24, 1917: Cincinnati splits a pair with the Cardinals, losing 4–2 before winning 15–4. The Reds Fred Toney is caught stealing three times in one game, tying a NL record. A Cards catcher will do the same to Hy Myers in two months.

» August 25, 1917: Behind Jeff Pfeffer and Rube Marquard, the Dodgers apply a doubleheader whitewash to the Cardinals, winning 12–0 and 4–0. Brooklyn's Hy Myers is thrown out three times trying to steal in one game by the Cards, the 2nd player this year to be thrown out three times in a game. Not till Rodney Scott, in 1979, will another NL runner be caught stealing three times.

» May 12, 1922: At Cincinnati, Reds' Cliff Markle relieves in the 9th and induces a ground out on one pitch to Brooklyn's Hy Myers. The Reds then score two runs to give Markle a one-pitch 7–6 win.

» February 11, 1923: With rookie Jim Bottomley in the wings, the Cards send 1B Jack Fournier to the Brooklyn Robins in a trade for C Hy Myers. The veteran Fournier says he'll quit if he has to move, but gives in and plays another five years. Fournier, with 22 homers in 1923, will finish 2nd in the National League, but his 20 steals in 43 attempts, the century's worst percentage for anyone with 20 steals, will barely qualify him for the 20-20 club.
