A 5'6" switch-hitter, Mueller was playing minor league ball at age 16, two years before he finished high school. He hit a home run off Brooklyn's Van Lingle Mungo in his first major league at-bat (4/19/38). His playing days ended when he entered the military in 1942. (NLM)
