Moss spent virtually his entire major league career fighting Sherm Lollar for playing
time, first with the Browns and later with the White Sox. With St. Louis in 1948,
before Lollar arrived from the Yankees, Moss reached career highs with 107 games,
14 home runs, and 46 RBI. He scouted, coached, and managed in the White Sox and Tiger
organizations for nearly 30 years. He was interim manager of the White Sox while
Al Lopez was hospitalized in 1968, and he managed the Tigers for the first third
of 1979 before being replaced by Sparky Anderson.
