In Detroit, Randy Johnson, overwhelms to Tigers, striking out 15 and not allowing a hit until the 8th inning, as the Mariners win, 2–0. The Big Unit extends his scoreless streak to 29 innings. Johnson (9-1) gives up a leadoff single to Phil Nevin in the eighth to hand Brian Moehler the loss.
» June 15, 1997:
The host Expos drum the Tigers 10–2 as Henry Rodriguez drills a homer off the rim of Olympic Stadium, only the second player to do so. The Expos sweep three to extend their winning streak to nine. With the score tied at one apiece Rodriguez homers off Brian Moehler (4-6) leading off the fourth. The ball rebounds off the 160-foot-high rim and lands on the field.
» April 5, 1999: OF Juan Encarnacion homers on the first pitch of the game and P Brian Moehler takes a no–hitter into the 7th inning as the Tigers defeat the Rangers, 11–5. Texas P Mike Morgan sets a major league record by appearing in a game for his 11th team. And Detroit P Masao Kida becomes the first Tokyo–born player to appear in a big league game when he pitches the 8th inning in relief.
» May 1, 1999: Detroit hurler Brian Moehler is ejected in the 7th inning for having a piece of sandpaper on his thumb against the Devil Rays. Two batters later, Randy Winn's sacrifice fly gives Tampa Bay the 4–3 win for Bobby Witt. Moehler will receive a 10-game suspension for his actions. Roberto Hernandez gets the save for the Devil Rays. It is the 200th of his career, making him the 1st Latin pitcher to reach the mark.
» May 3, 1999:
Tigers P Brian Moehler is suspended for 10 games for scuffing the ball two days ago. Moehler denies having sandpaper attached to his thumb and instead says it was dirt. But Moehler says he won't appeal.
» September 27, 1999: With each of the Tigers wearing the uniform numbers of all-time Detroit players at their position (OF Gabe Kapler, standing in for Ty Cobb, wears no number) the Tigers defeat the Royals, 8-2, in the last game ever played at Tiger Stadium. Rob Fick's grand slam in the 8th brings the capacity crowd of 43,356 to its feet. Luis Polonia and Karim Garcia also homer as Brian Moehler beats Jeff Suppan.
» July 23, 2002:
The Reds obtain P Brian Moehler and IF Matt Boone from the Tigers in exchange for IF David Espinosa and two players to be named. Moehler, 1–1 with a 2.29 ERA, will go 2-4 with a 6.02 ERA as a Red.
