    FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» April 19, 1998: Florida Marlins rookie 3B Kevin Millar makes his first major league start against the Diamondbacks. On the first pitch he sees from Jeff Suppan, Millar swings and hits a foul ball. In doing so, he breaks the hamate bone in his left hand, sending him to the DL. Florida goes on to defeat Arizona, 4–3.

» May 19, 2001: Florida nips Colorado, 1–0, as Brad Penny (4–0) wins his 8th in a row. Kevin Millar provides the only score with a 7th inning homer. In yesterday's 2–1 win, Millar and Charles Johnson hit back-to-back home runs.

» September 4, 2001: The Marlins Josh Beckett debuts with a 6-inning one hit effort as the Fish beat the Cubs, 8–2. Beckett, who was 14–1 in the minors, also adds a double. Kevin Millar has a grand slam and Preston Wilson a 3-run homer.

» September 28, 2001: Kevin Millar's 10th inning home run gives the Marlins a 6–5 win over the Phils and drops them two games behind the Braves in the NL East.

» June 28, 2002: Tampa Bay whips their cross state rival Marlins 4–0 behind Wilson Alvarez and two relievers. Jared Sandberg homers for TB. In the 7th, Kevin Millar of the Marlins hits a towering fly that lands on one of the catwalks that hang from the stadium's dome. It never comes down and it is ruled a double. It's the second time a ball has gotten stuck in a catwalk at Tropicana Field. In 1999, Jose Canseco hit a home run drive that lodged there. Millar joins Ruppert Jones, Rickey Nelson, Dave Kingman, Alvaro Espinoza and Canseco as the only players to hit a fair ball that got stuck in a stadium obstruction. Jones and Nelson both had hits get caught in the overhead speakers at the old Kingdome. The balls hit by Kingman and Espinoza were at the Minneapolis Metrodome with Kingman's getting stuck in a drainage valve and Espinoza's lodging in an overhead speaker.

» September 21, 2002: Florida's Brad Penny goes to 3–0 this year against the Braves, winning 6–4. Kevin Millar, who's 25-game hit streak was stopped yesterday, has an RBI in the 8th.
