FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» May 5, 2001: Dee Brown follows a Dave McCarty walk in the 12th with a homer off Travis Miller as the Royals beat the visiting Twins, 12–10. After Rey Sanchez scored, McCarty tied the score in the bottom of the 9th with a 2-out single off LaTroy Hawkins, his first blown save after a major-league record 23 straight to start a career. Sanchez scored from 3B after 1B Doug Mientkiewicz tumbled into the stands after making a diving catch.

» August 11, 2001: In the Twins 4–3 loss to Tampa Bay, Minnesota 1B Doug Mientkiewicz makes all three outs in the bottom of the 2nd without touching first base. The Devil Rays have Toby Hall on 3B and Randy Winn on 1B with no outs in the inning when Aubrey Huff hits a weak grounder to Mientkiewicz. The first sacker crosses the diamond to chase Hall back to third then tags out Winn who had run all the way around from first. Mientkiewicz then catches Huff wandering off the base to complete an unassisted double play. The next Rays' batter, Jared Sandberg, hits a towering foul pop-up that Mientkiewicz caught for the third out.

» October 1, 2002: In a sloppily played game, the Twins bounce back from a 5–1 deficit to beat Oakland by a score of 7–5 in their division series opener. Corey Koskie and Doug Mientkiewicz go deep for Minnesota and Brad Radke gets credit for the win.

» October 5, 2002: The Twins even their series with the A's behind Eric Milton, winning by a score of 11–2. Doug Mientkiewicz homers for Minnesota and Miguel Tejada for Oakland.
