The 6'2" 190-lb McWeeny had his best years for the Dodgers in the late 1920s. He was 11-13 in 1926 with a 3.04 ERA and 14-14 in 1928 with a 3.17 ERA. He led the NL in walks (114) and shutouts (4) in 1928.

A native of Chicago, McWeeny began his career with the White Sox but was sent to the San Francisco Seals in May 1922 for highly-touted third baseman Willie Kamm. Sox owner Charlie Comiskey also threw in another pitcher and $100,000 -- the largest sum of money ever paid for a player since Harry Frazee sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees before the 1920 season.
