A punter and pitcher at Notre Dame, McGinn was the first pick by Cincinnati in the
1966 draft. He set a rookie record pitching in 74 games for the Expos in 1969. That
year, his only ML homer (off Tom Seaver) was the first for an expansion team. A week
later, he was the winning pitcher in the first ML game ever played on foreign soil.
In 1970 manager Gene Mauch pulled him out of the bullpen, for only his second ML
start, to oppose Seaver, who had won 16 straight. McGinn shut out the Mets on three
hits.
