McCreery was an unsuccessful pitcher who became a switch-hitting outfielder with decent power. His first full season was his best. Only 21, he hit .351 for 12th-place Louisville, slugged .546, and tied for the league lead with 21 triples. On July 12, 1897, he hit three home runs in one game. (ADS)
