Books and articles about Ken McBride

McBride looked promising in the expansion Angels' inaugural season, finishing 12-15 with a 3.65 ERA in 1961, and was a regular starter for the club in each of its first four seasons. His best season was 1962, when he was 11-5, 3.50, with four shutouts, despite losing time to a back injury. His career was ended in 1965 by a sore arm. (JFC)

» June 26, 1961: At LA's Wrigley Field, Angel reliever Art Fowler, who has allowed just one hit in his last 12 innings, serves up a 9th inning home run to Bill Skowron as New York wins 8–6. Mickey Mantle adds an earlier homer, off Ken McBride, and Ford wins his 13th.

» August 22, 1961: Roger Maris becomes the first player to hit his 50th home run in the month of August, as the Yankees lose to the Angels 4–3 (Ruth and Foxx hit #50 on September 4th). Ken McBride tees up the gopher ball in the 6th inning with one on.

» August 23, 1963: 1B Lee Thomas of the Angels ties a major-league record by participating in six DPs in a 17–0 romp at Washington. 3B Felix Torres starts four of them to tie a ML record. Ken McBride is the recipient of the outburst while Steve Ridzik is the loser.
