The son of outfielder Wally Mattick (White Sox, 1912-13, Cardinals, 1918), Bobby played only one season as a regular, with the Cubs in 1940. He became an incomparable longtime scout and player development specialist with many organizations, signing such stars as Frank Robinson, Vada Pinson, Curt Flood, Rusty Staub, Don Baylor, and Gary Carter. Mattick helped draft the expansion Blue Jays, and managed them to last-place finishes in 1980 and 1981. (ARA)
    FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» December 4, 1940: The Cubs swap SS Bobby Mattick and OF Jim Gleeson to the Reds for SS Billy Myers. Myers will split his time between Chicago and the minors in '41 and quit in 1942 rather than take a pay cut.

» September 30, 1979: Two ML managers bite the dust. The Padres fire Roger Craig and the Blue Jays do the same to Roy Hartsfield. San Diego will hire broadcaster Jerry Coleman the next day, while Toronto will hire scout Bobby Mattick on October 18th.
