    FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» January 20, 1906: The Giants sign Christy Mathewson's untalented 19-year-old brother Henry.

» September 28, 1906: At New York, the Giants pepper Fred Beebe while Christy Mathewson coasts to an 8-1 lead. With the game in hand, Christy leaves after eight innings, and his brother Henry makes his ML debut. Henry Mathewson allows an unearned run in the 9th and the Giants win, 8-2.

» October 5, 1906: The Giants give Christy Mathewson's brother Henry a starting chance against Boston and he promptly puts his name in the record books. Henry establishes a modern NL record by walking 14. He also hits one batter, allows just five hits, but completes the 7-1 loss. He'll pitch another inning next year, but this is his only ML decision.

» May 4, 1907: Hooks Wiltse shuts out Brooklyn, 10-0, allowing just one hit in eight innings. Henry Mathewson, Christy's brother, mops up in the 9th in his final ML appearance.

» February 7, 1952: North American P Bill Samson achieves an undistinguished winter league record by walking 14 Vargas batters in 6 innings while pitching for Cerveceria Caracas of the Venezuelan League. This negative feat also matches the ML record set in 1906 by Henry Mathewson of the New York Giants, who needed 9 full innings for an equal display of pitching wildness.
