» July 5, 1950: In a sloppy game that features 18 walks, Cliff Mapes drives in five runs with a homer and single to pace the Yankees to a 12–8 win over the Athletics. Tommy Byrne (9-3) is the winner despite giving up six hits and six walks in five innings (he walks two in the 6th). He also hits four batters to tie the ML record. Alex Kellner pitches four innings, giving up six runs in the loss. The A's lose Eddie Joost who tears ligaments in his left knee in a collision with Mapes at 2B in the 7th.
» August 11, 1950: Hitting just .279, Yankee great Joe DiMaggio is benched for the first time in his career. He is currently languishing in a 4-for-38 slump. His sub, Cliff Mapes, wallops a seventh-inning HR to give the Yankees a 7–6 win over the A's.
» May 30, 1951: In a doubleheader loss with Boston, Yankee slugger Mickey Mantle strikes out three times in the opener, and twice more to start the 2nd game: Casey Stengel lifts the slugger in the middle of the game for Cliff Mapes. In the opener, Ted Williams scores from 2B on a sacrifice bunt, and then ties the game with a home run. Vern Stephens 15th inning homer off Spec Shea wins it for Boston, 11–10. Williams then ties the nitecap with a double and Stephens' single drives him home with the game winner as Boston triumphs, 9–4. Ray Scarborough and Bill Wight are today's winners. The loss drops the Yanks into 2nd place, where they'll stay for a month.
» July 31, 1951: The Browns acquire Cliff Mapes from the Yankees, sending Bobbie Hogue, Kermit Wahl, Tom Upton and Lou Sleater to New York. The trade frees up an outfield spot for Mantle's return as well as Mapes #7 uniform.
» February 14, 1952: The Browns pick up 1B Dick Kryhoski and pitchers Gene Bearden and Bob Cain from Detroit. The Tigers receive C Matt Batts, OF Cliff Mapes, P Dick Littlefield, and 1B Ben Taylor.
