Lyons finally got a chance to play regularly when Gary Carter had knee surgery early
in the 1989 season. Lyons was hot at first, hitting two HR in his first week as a
regular, but soon he slumped and then went on the DL with a broken foot. He came
off the DL the same time as Carter.
