After pitching for the lowly Mets of the early 1980s, Lynch was 10-8, 3.44 as their
third starter when they finished second in 1985, but he was traded to the Cubs for
a pair of minor leaguers in the middle of 1986 as the Mets were storming toward a
World Championship. Lynch had excellent control (2.2 walks per nine innings in the
ML) and could pitch in relief as well as start, but a 2-9, 5.38 record with Chicago
in 1987 ended his ML career.

»September 1, 1985: The visiting New York Mets edge San Francisco, 43 with Keith Hernandez's 2-run homer climaxing a 3-run 9th inning. Siske, in relief of Ed Lynch, is the winning pitcher. In the 5th, Lynch lines to right field and is thrown out 93 by RF Joel Youngblood. It's the National League's 2nd 93 putout in two months.

The Cubs fire their ball girl Marla Collins when it is revealed that she posed nude for Playboy magazine. The photos will appear in the October issue and accompany shots of Marla in her Cubs uniform and one of Harry Caray pointing to a tattoo on her right thigh. The Cubs win today 64 behind Ed Lynch, who ties a National League record in the 1st inning by making three putouts. The record was set in 1975 by another Cub Rick Reuschel.
