» September 17, 1951: In Chicago, ex-Dodger Gene Hermanski clouts a pinch homer off Clyde King as the Cubs rally for a 5–3 win over Brooklyn. The Dodgers also lose Campanella, who leaves the field on a stretcher after being struck in the head by a pitch from Turk Lown. Campy will remain in a Chicago hospital when the Dodgers leave for St. Louis. He will rejoin the team in Brooklyn Friday night. » May 2, 1952: After allowing no hits through eight innings, the Cubs Turk Lown cracks under the strain and gives up three hits and loses to the Dodgers, 3–1. Billy Loes is the winner in relief. The Cubs score in the first on a double steal by Bob Addis and Frankie Baumholtz.
» May 30, 1956: The wind is still blowing out at Wrigley as Braves Eddie Mathews, Hank Aaron and Bobby Thomson hit consecutive first-inning home runs against the Cubs Russ Meyer. Meyer then hits the next batter, Billy Bruton, with a pitch, and when Bruton charges the mound, both he and Meyer are ejected in the ensuing fight. The Cubs plate three in the 1st and reliever Turk Lown homers in the 2nd for his first ML roundtripper. Thomson adds another home run, but the Braves lose the first game 10–9. They hold on to win the 2nd, 11–9. Fifteen home runs in the two games, including four by Thomson, sets a ML-record in a doubleheader. All but three of the homers are solo.

The White Sox bring former Cubbie Turk Lown back to Chicago, buying him from the Reds. Lown will prove a valuable addition, going 9–2 for the Sox in 1959. Tomorrow, the Reds will buy White Sox 1B Walt Dropo.
» July 19, 1959: Before 57,000 at the Stadium, the Yankees sweep a pair from the visiting White Sox, winning the nitecap 6–4 on Mickey Mantle's homer off Turk Lown. In game 1, Yankee veteran Enos Slaughter belts a pair of homers: at age 43, he is the oldest player this century to accomplish the feat. Carlton Fisk, a few months older, will top Slaughter in 1991.
» August 6, 1959: White Sox lefty Billy Pierce and the Orioles P Billy O'Dell are even up 1–1 when Hoyt Wilhelm relieves in the 9th for Baltimore. Wilhelm tosses eight 2/3 innings of no-hit ball before allowing a safety. After 18 innings and the score still at 1–1, the game is mercifully called because of the midnight curfew. Pierce goes 16 innings before he gets relief from Turk Lown.

Brooks Robinson goes 5-for-5, hitting for the cycle, to lead the Orioles to a 5–2 win over the White Sox. With three hits yesterday, Robinson has eight straight hits. His 9th inning triple off reliever Turk Lown, seals the win for Milt Pappas over starter Billy Pierce.
