» February 1, 1999: The Yankees trade 3B prospect Mike Lowell to the Marlins for minor league pitchers Ed Yarnall, Mark Johnson, and Todd Noel.

» February 21, 1999: Florida rookie 3B Mike Lowell, acquired three weeks ago, undergoes surgery for testicular cancer after a small mass is found during a routine exam.

» August 9, 1999: A total of five grand slams are hit on the day, marking the first time it has happened in 129 years of major league baseball. The bases loaded pokes are hit by Fernando Tatis of St. Louis (against the Phillies), Jose Vidro of Montreal (against the Padres), Mike Lowell of Florida (against the Giants), Bernie Williams of the Yankees (against the Athletics), and Jay Buhner of Seattle (against the White Sox).

» September 10, 2000: The Marlins defeat the Diamondbacks, 4-3 in 12 innings. Randy Johnson strikes out 14 Florida players in seven innings, including Mike Lowell to end the 4th for his 3,000th career strikeout. He is the 12th hurler to reach the milestone. Johnson 1st strikeout of the game gives him 300 for the 3rd consecutive year. Only Nolan Ryan has reached 300 Ks more times (6).

» September 2, 2002: Braden Looper (1–5) in his 66th relief appearance of the year, extends the Mets home losing streak to 15 in the 12–inning first game of a doubleheader. Florida wins 3–2. Preston Wilson ties the game in the 9th with a home run, and Juan Encarnacion wins it with an RBI double. The Mets take the nitecap, 11–5, overcoming back-to-back home runs in the 2nd by Derrek Lee and Mike Lowell. Mike Piazza drills a pinch 3-run home run. The win snaps the Mets home loss streak at 15 games, a National League record set the 1911 Braves. They last won at home on July 31.
