Lewis was with the Philadelphia Evening Ledger before starting 33 years as a baseball writer for the Inquirer in 1946. For 16 years he wrote a weekly column on baseball and was a Sporting News correspondent. He covered 24 WS and was a member of the scoring-rules committee from 1958 to 1972. Lewis wrote This Date in Philadelphia Phillies History and Phillies Pictorial History. He received the J.G. Taylor Spink Award in 1981. (NLM)
