LeMaster was the 43rd player to hit a home run in his first ML at-bat, but he hit
very little after that. As the Giants' regular shortstop from 1978 through 1985,
the slender infielder was a sometimes competent fielder.

FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
»September 2, 1975: Johnny LeMaster homers in his first ML at bat for the Giants during a 7–3 win over Dodgers. In 12 years and 3,191 at bats, LeMaster will hit only 22 home runs, but this first hit is a ML record—an inside the park homer. Brian Downing two years ago was the first player to hit his first homer inside the park.
»May 30, 1985:
Cleveland trades SS Johnnie LeMaster, acquired earlier this month from the Padres, to Pittsburgh for a player to be named later (Scott Bailes). LeMaster will end the year as a Pirate, but all three teams he plays for this year will finish in last place.
