Ladd was a one-year phenom. A hard-throwing sinker-slider pitcher with a herky-jerky motion, he was an intimidating presence with his long hair, beard, and 6'3" 240-lb physique. He saved 25 games for the 1983 Brewers, replacing the injured Rollie Fingers, but was hit hard in 1984 (5.24 ERA). By the end of 1985 he was back in the minors. In the 1982 LCS, he saved two games and was runner-up in the series MVP voting. (JCA)
