LaMaster was drafted by the Phillies after two winning seasons in the American Association.
Although he led the NL with 19 defeats as a rookie in 1937, he won 15 for the seventh-place
Phillies. In August of his poor second season, he was traded to the Dodgers, who
used him in three games and then sent him back to the minors.
