There were two outstanding AL rookies in 1936. Joe DiMaggio was the other. Kreevich,
originally signed by the Cubs, quietly hit .307 for the White Sox that year. His
16 triples in 1937 were the league high. He was a consistent .300 hitter early on,
with stellar defensive work in centerfield. Thanks to his powerful throwing arm,
he led NL outfielders with 18 assists in 1939. But after a two-year slump at the
plate, Kreevich was sent to the A's in a December 1941 deal for Wally Moses. Kreevich
was only the second player in history to ground into four double plays in a game,
on August 4, 1939 against the Senators. ps
