(Southern Association) in 1961. He won his first seven big league decisions, spanning
1961-65, but injured his shoulder in 1966.

A dropped fly ball by Hunt in the 10th gives the Tigers two runs and a 7–5 win over the Angels. Hunt had tied the game in the 8th with a home run. Rookie Howie Koplitz wins his first ML game, after going 23-3 with a no hitter for Birmingham (SA). Koplitz will wins his first seven decisions in the Bigs over four years but an arm injury will limit him to a 9–7 record.
»August 1, 1962:
Drawing a combined 32 bases on balls in a doubleheader, the Tigers (20) and A's (12) tie an American League record. The Tigers sweep, winning the opener, 6–5, with three runs in the 9th, then taking the nitecap, 9–1 behind Howie Koplitz's (1–0) complete game effort.
