A good all-around ballplayer, Kimbro hit for consistently high averages and was noted for his defensive ability and baserunning. At various times in the 1940s he led the league in runs scored, doubles, and triples. He batted .371 in 1946 and .363 in 1947, finishing third each season. He appeared in six East-West all-star games. Playing for Havana in the Cuban Winter League during the 1947-48 season, he won the batting crown with a .346 average, and set a league record with 104 hits. (BP)
